Stranraer Half Marathon 2006 Download the full poster - pdf format (541k) Download the Entry Form - pdf format (54k) Stranraer Half Marathon Plus Junior Runs – Saturday 3 June 2006 Fun Runs and Races for all the Family The fifth annual Stranraer Half Marathon plus junior runs is due to
take place on Saturday 4 March 2006, -- Wigtownshire LHP’s current Health Improvement Plan has identified Physical Activity and Diet as priority areas and by working in partnership with Sport and Leisure we are striving to attain these objectives and in turn improve the health of people of all ages living in Wigtownshire .By supporting an event such as this, we hope to raise the populations awareness on the benefits of Physical activity. Also to support this within the community we are running awareness sessions called "A Little Physical Activity Means A Lot".These events are open to staff, Community Planning partners and the community as a whole. This event is one of the up and coming half marathons on the running calendar. It is designed for the whole family to take part in, have fun, enjoy running and is an ideal day for beginners or for seasoned runners. Every year participation is increasing at this event, a total of 748 athletes competed in the 2005 races. So far entries have increased from previous years, but it is time for you to put your entry in! Throughout the day there are 9 races. All races will start and finish at Stranraer Academy Athletics Track. The day will begin with the 14, 15 & 16 years race, the Senior Fun Run and due to public demand the Half Marathon Walkers at 9.45am.
The main race of the day is the Half Marathon, which is accurately measured at a distance of 13 miles and 192.5 yards. The course is fairly flat with undulating parts, which is ideal for beginners and excellent for seasoned runners wanting to improve their personal best times. The course commences through the town of Stranraer and then meanders out into the beautiful countryside of Wigtownshire. This race will begin at 11.00am. The course records are held by Stephen Wylie, Cambuslang in 1 hr 8 minutes, 35 seconds in 2003 and Jill Shannon, Laggan Valley in 1 hr 21 minutes 16 seconds in 2005. Following this race, the fun begins at 2.00pm with the 12 & 13 years race over 2,100metres, then the 10 & 11 years fun run at 2.30pm (1,400 metres). The final races of the day are for our youngest competitors on the athletics track, commencing with the 4 & under years of age at 3.00pm, 5& 6 years at 3.30pm and 7, 8 & 9 years at 4.00pm running 200 metres, 400 metres and 600 metres respectively. All race finishers will receive a goody bag including a commemorative
medal. Changing facilities, toilets, showers, left luggage area, medical station, Half Marathon merchandise stall, various trade and craft stands and a cafeteria will be available at the Stranraer Academy Athletics Track.
