Realcare Baby Programme 2005

The realcare baby programme began in Stranraer Academy on 14th March, the girls committed to a three week intensive programme with lessons on various topics such as contraception, budgeting, labour and delivery to name only a few.  Following on from the theory sessions the girls had some practical lessons on learning how to handle and care for the babies.  We decided to split the parenting session into two groups, so the first lot of girls took the babies home last Thursday (31st March) and returned them on Monday (4th April).

The majority of the girls found it a very positive experience, even when having to change a nappy on the bus on the way home from school, though all were shattered after 3 nights of broken sleep.  We would like to thank the girls very much for their commitment and hard work, it’s been a huge learning experience for us aswell.  Also thanks to the whole of the team who have made this programme happen, it’s been hard work but very enjoyable.  The second group of girls from Stranraer Academy will be taking the babies home on Thursday 21st April.

The realcare baby programme is a Wigtownshire wide programme and  begins at Douglas Ewart High School on 13th June.
