Six young people and two adults from The West Wigtownshire Tambourelli
Group took part in a "Young Movers Course" designed to train
the group to set up a Community Project which involved four intensive
days of activities, ideas sessions and group development work. To complete
the course the group had to consider the needs of their area and the
people living there and write an Action Plan about what they could organise
and how they would go about it.
Laurence
Macdonald and Andrew Henry (Tambourelli Coaches) stated the young people
had a great time and made some very strong bonds with other Community
groups from across the Country which we intend to maintain contact
with and possibly develop exchange visits in the future , Laurence
stated we're now planning to develop our project for the participation
within the Community.
Murdo Macleod, Community Health Development Worker for Building Healthy
Communities in West Wigtownshire stated he was pleased to be able to
assist funding the group to attend the course, He also stated the group
have also been invited back to a prestigious National Awards Ceremony
later this year when they will meet up with groups from all over the
UK to receive Certificates for their efforts.
The National Awards for Community Contribution by Young People will involve
over 300 people who have completed Young Movers courses and organised
community projects.
The Event enables young people to meet and work alongside other young
groups from all over the UK, And gain an insight to how other Community
groups have developed healthy living projects in their Community, and
to develop skills to organise a project when they return home, that they
will enjoy doing and will benefit other people in the Community, in addition
the group will be eligible for a number of special trophies and awards
at the National awards.
